The capsule and the clone are joined. Capsuleers begin plying the spaceways and the Empyrean age begins.

Definition

Capsule or Pod is a 4m long egg shaped Starship with built in sub-light propulsion systems capable of performing warp.

Modern capsules (hydrostatic capsules) are highly advanced devices and must not be confused with basic escape pods or emergency capsules in the sense that a Hydrostatic Capsule's main purpose is not for emergency situations. The main purpose of a capsule is to allow the capsuleer to command a spaceship with his/her mind, eliminating the need to relay commands to ship crew. In order to do so, a capsule must board the other ship. Most modern ships in New Eden are designed to be capsule compatible.

A Hydrostatic Capsule houses a fluid tank filled with ectoplasmic liquid (also called "pod goo"), various life-support systems, advanced neural interfaces and a transneural burning scanner, in addition to a basic capacitor and propulsion units, all covered with minimal armor coating.

Je a dit…

Uses
Ship Command

A Hydrostatic Capsule allows a capsuleer (pod pilot) to command a spaceship by issuing mental commands directly to the ship's control systems. This allows the capsuleer to command spaceships with greater efficiency, almost eliminates the human error factor and greatly reduces the crew size necessary for the operation of a ship. Bypassing the need to issue/relay commands to crew members when controlling a spaceship requires that the capsuleer remains in statis inside his pod. When inside a spaceship, the capsule links itself to the ships's mainframe, which effectively grants the total control of the ship to the capsuleer.

While most frigate sized ships require no crew when piloted by a capsuleer, as the ship size increases, so does the number of specialist required to keep the ship's systems functional. A capital ship still requires thousands of experts to function properly, even when piloted by a capsuleer.
Escape

Capsules also function as emergency escape vehicles in case the spaceship they are piloting is destroyed. A pod pilot may also willingly leave its ship behind while in space, but doing so leaves the ship vulnerable; another capsuleer may easily board the now-abandoned vessel and claim it.
Cloning

Since YC 104, all hydrostatic capsules are fitted with transneural burning scanners, which is a crucial component for successful cloning of the capsuleer in case of hull-breach (also called pod kill). Thanks to the advances in cloning technology and FTL communications, another function of the capsule is to make the capsuleer effectively immortal, by scanning the brain patterns of the pod pilot in the moment of death, thus allowing near perfect memory replication, which is almost impossible in any other situation. When a capsule's hull is breached, which signals that the death of the pod pilot is imminent, the transneural burning scanner takes a snapshot of the capsuleer's brain while destroying the brain tissue during the process. The information is then relayed to a cloning station where the pilot has a clone prepared for this purpose and the brain structure is re-created based on the snapshot. Within seconds following his or her "death", the capsuleer awakens, safely, inside a clone reanimation unit.

Technical Specifications
General

Technically speaking, the capsule itself is a spaceship, with on-board capacitor and propulsion systems capable of initiating warp. But it must be stressed that the capsule is an extremely fragile vessel; its shield, armor and structure is designed not to withstand combat but to protect its contents against the depressurized, cold space.
Fitting

Capsules do not offer any fitting options.
Other

Their small size facilitates maneuvering and allows rapid acceleration, shortening the time required to initiate warp. Capsules have small signature radii which increases the locking time of any hostile ship.

History

Capsules are first developed and used by Jovians. Roughly 120 years ago, during the Gallente-Caldari War, the Jovians contacted the Caldari and provided them with the capsule technology.

Sansha's Nation is a rogue state that occupies the Stain region. It was founded over a hundred years ago by Sansha Kuvakei, who wished to create a utopian society based around the exploitation of brainwashed slave labor and a small, cybernetically enhanced elite. Nation, as it is called by its citizens, was destroyed by a CONCORD-led coalition of the empires in YC 37, leaving only remnants behind. However, the survivors managed to band together and reemerged in YC105, gradually restoring its power and growing until launching a series of invasions into empire space in YC112.

Jamyl Sarum, styled Jamyl I, was the Empress of the Amarr Empire from YC110 to YC117. Assumed dead for many years, she returned to lead the Empire at the Battle of Mekhios and was subsequently crowned Empress by the surviving Heirs. She assumed the throne in YC110. Her brief reign was marked by sweeping change within the Empire.

Je a dit…

The Battle of Mekhios, fought on June 10th, YC 110, was a major space engagement between the Amarr Empire and the Minmatar Elder Fleet. It occurred in orbit around Mekhios, the third planet in Sarum Prime. Jamyl Sarum led the Amarr forces in a route of the invading Elder Fleet, using a Terran superweapon to turn the tide of battle. The battle forced the Elder Fleet to retreat from Empire space, preventing the release of billions of slaves. Jamyl Sarum was hailed as a savior of the Empire and used the popularity of her victory to claim the Imperial throne.

Je a dit…

The Amarr Heirs are the heads of the five royal families, the highest caste of the Holders apart from the Emperor Family itself. Even if the Emperor is the head of state his power outside his immediate vicinity is limited. The entrenched bureaucracy and the semi-feudal governing system means that all over the empire there are local lords that enjoy almost complete autonomy most of time. The Heirs are the most powerful of these lords. Each heir family has vast domains spanning dozens of solar systems. The power of the heirs can best be seen in the way each of them shapes their domain to fit his own wishes. The result is that the Amarr Empire is a patchwork of rules and regulations, customs and traditions.

The power of the heir families originates in the changes made during the Moral Reforms some 1500 years ago, when the influence of the Apostles was curbed. The Privy Council, the unofficial government of the empire, also dates from this time and all the heirs sit on it. Four of the current heir families are the original families given royal status during the Moral Reform. The fifth is a recent addition after the Khanid Family was exiled. The five families are: the Ardishapur Family, the Kador Family, the Sarum Family, the Kor-Azor Family and the Tash-Murkon Family

Death of Empress Jamyl I

On August 21 YC 117, Jamyl I's Avatar-class Titan TES Seraph was annihilated by a massive and sudden attack by the dangerous and enigmatic Drifters. Jamyl had travelled to the Safizon system to attend the commissioning ceremony for the new Imperial Navy flagship Auctoritas. The empress' Titan was immediately destroyed by the mass firing of the Drifters' superweapons, and this was soon followed by the destruction of Jamyl's escape pod, ending the empress' life.

In a previous appearance, Jamyl had downplayed the danger of the Drifters, claiming their threat was "contained". Days after her death, Court Chamberlain Pomik Haromi - as Regent of the Empire - formally declared war on the Drifter forces.

Je a dit…

The latest presumed threat to descend upon New Eden, The Drifters are still a mystery in many ways. One thing that seems certain is that their technology far outstrips that available to the Empires and thus every attempt should be made to learn more. With this in mind the following data has been compiled.

Observatories
200px
The first hint of a possible threat came in two forms. Firstly the presence of Circadian Seekers in systems throughout New Eden, which will be discussed later. The second was in the form of immense cloaked structures. Over time the cloaking on these structured failed, revealing them and allowing them to be identified as Jove Observatories. The exact link between the Drifters and the observatories is as yet not understood.

It is notable that much of their efforts involve the seeming protection and harvesting of these structures, many of which are now in a state of disrepair. Work on the Entosis links and their deployment to Capsuleers has revealed a data-store going back several decades. It is clear therefore that the empires have been under observation for quite some time by the presumed missing Jovians and, additionally, that the Drifters covet the information thus gleaned.

A report by Eran Mintor describes the observatories as emitting an Audible signal.

A number of capsuleer organizations, such as ONS. have worked on extracting information from the observatories. Their findings can be found here

Unidentified Wormholes

Located in close proximity to several of the observatories, these wormholes seem to be technologically generated and stabilized by the Drifters using Sleeper technology, as the various structures located around the periphery have been identified as “Sleeper Thermoelectric Converter” and “Sleeper Multiplex Forwarder”.

While at first Capsuleers could not enter these wormholes, something unknown has recently changed, and the wormholes can now be used by capsuleer ships. They seem to lead to new systems that are populated by sleeper enclaves of various types, more wormholes, spacial rifts - some that seem to be guarded by numerous weapons platforms (now inactive) - as well as other unknown structures and sites. These new systems have been confirmed as the same systems from which the Helen Tukoss broadcast originated (as his body was recently found there by a search expedition). However, while many Drifter ships are still present, the large armada he reported about is no longer there. Much exploration of these new regions is needed. The Drifter activity in these systems seem to hint of an unclear relationship with the sleepers. they use Sleeper tech and may even prey upon the sleepers themselves.
