Origines

Lilandra appeared as a central character in the Emperor Vulcan sequel, X-Men: Kingbreaker and in the War of Kings miniseries, which began in early 2009.[19][20]
In issue #4 of the War of Kings crossover, Lilandra is assassinated by Darkhawk, who is being controlled by Razor, who is in turn impersonating a Shi'ar citizen. She dies in the arms of Gladiator.[21]

List of Imperial Guard members

1970s members

  • Starbolt[1] - formerly known as Bolt; He is covered with a flame-like energy at all times and was one of the longest living Guardsmen. He can project this energy from his hands. Starbolt can fly in space without requiring protection. He is an analogue of Sun Boy. He is one of the Guardsmen who survived the battle with Vulcan. He was one of the few selected to explore 'the Fault', but killed by a creature in the Fault during Realm of Kings.
  • Scintilla[1] - Formerly known as Midget[2] where the Official Marvel Index to the X-Men refers to as Midget (and this is officially confirmed in The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe), but actually the character was never named on-panel before Avengers West Coast #81; there she is called Scintilla. In any case, she is an analogue to Shrinking Violet. She is one of the Guardsmen who survived the battle with Vulcan.
  • Flashfire (Grannz)[1] - Formerly known as Tempest, Flashfire can generate bolts of lightning. He is the counterpart of Lightning Lad, and his real name is a reference to that character's real name, Garth Rannz. His name was changed from Tempest to Flashfire to avoid confusion with DC Comics' Tempest (formerly Aqualad). He was wounded battling Vulcan. During Realm of Kings he was one of the few selected to explore "The Fault".
  • Pulsar[1] - Formerly known as Impulse, Pulsar is made of pure energy and his form is only contained by his costume. He can release blasts of energy from his visor. He is an analogue of Wildfire. His name was changed from Impulse to Pulsar to avoid confusion with the Legionnaire named Impulse (Kent Shakespeare), who had been introduced since Impulse/Pulsar had debuted. He seemed to have been killed by Vulcan, but since Impulse is made of pure energy, it's doubtful he really died, because he did return in War of Kings.
  • Fang[1] - A Lupak. Fang is a feral, agile warrior with uncanny senses and sharp canine teeth. He was transformed into a Brood and killed[3] by Wolverine who then took his costume and wore it to infiltrate the Imperial Guard. Due to the advanced cloning talents of the Lupaks, Fang was revived through cloning. He is the counterpart of Timber Wolf.
  • Oracle (Sybil)[1] - Oracle possesses psychic powers, including but not limited to telepathy and precognition. She is a counterpart of Saturn Girl. She has been romantically linked with both Gladiator and Starbolt. She was injured in the battle with Vulcan, but she survived the attack and became his advisor during his reign of the Shi'ar. During Realm of Kings she was one of the few selected by Gladiator to explore "The Fault".
  • Mentor[1] - An intelligent and a skilled tactician. He may be some kind of android or cyborg. Mentor is an analogue to Brainiac 5. He should not to be confused with Mentor the Eternal, father of Thanos. He survived the battle with Vulcan. Mentor became the new leader of the Imperial Guard when Gladiator became Majestor. He did lead a small team of Guardsmen into the Fault during Realm of Kings.
  • Gladiator (Kallark)[1] - He is the Imperial Guard's Praetor (leader). As a member of the Strontian race, Gladiator is the Imperial Guard's leader. Because of this role, he was more than once used as an advisor by Lilandra. He is unflappably loyal to the ruler of the Shi'ar Empire, whomever that may be at the time. He has been romantically involved with Oracle (Lady Sibyl). He is an analogue of Superman and Superboy (along with design cues resembling Jack Kirby's OMAC character), and possesses a number of relevant powers (strength, endurance, flight, enhanced senses, and the ability to travel through space unaided), with one caveat: his powers are dependent on his self-image. If he believes that he can lose a fight, his powers become weaker, and he has been physically humbled by purely psychic assaults. He has a cousin named Xenith, who is a Supergirl analogue; she is not affiliated with the Imperial Guard and should not be confused with the Imperial Guardsman named Zenith. He personally defeated Vulcan in combat and ripped out Vulcan's eye. Gladiator became Majestor of the Shi'ar after Lilandra was killed. He named Mentor as the new leader of the Imperial Guard.
  • Neutron[1] - Formerly known as Quasar, Neutron is a member of the Stygian race and is superhumanly strong and durable. He is possibly an analogue of Star Boy. His name was changed to Neutron when the character then known as Marvel Man changed his name to Quasar and he developed a strong enmity for the hero following their encounter in "Operation: Galactic Storm"; had been discharged and sent to Earth, which was turned into an intergalactic prison in Maximum Security. Neutron was later pardoned and accepted to serve in the Guard again. He was believed killed by Vulcan. However, Neutron turned up alive and joined the Imperial Guardsmen who recently attacked the Kree homeworld.[4] During 'Realm of Kings' he was one of the few selected to explore "The Fault".
  • Smasher (Vril Rokk)[1] - He is superhumanly strong and durable, and can fly under his own power. He can "download" powers via the special goggles that he wears; so far he has been seen to obtain in this manner "penta-vision", which may be a form of clairvoyance or X-ray vision, and the ability to travel into hyperspace ("4-space") without a vehicle. He has been romantically linked with Plutonia. He is an analogue of Ultra Boy. He was recently killed by Vulcan. Since then, many others have taken the role and name of Smasher, but never lived to serve for a long time.
  • Titan[1] - He can increase his size. He is an analogue of Colossal Boy. He was recently severely wounded in a combat the Imperial Guard had with Vulcan. Fortunately, he survived and was shown among his colleagues.[5]
  • Electron[1] - He is a Shi'ar with the ability to generate and control electricity. He is the counterpart of Lightning Lad or possibly Cosmic Boy. He is one of the Guardsmen who survived the battle with Vulcan.
  • Astra[1] - Has the ability to become intangible. She is an analogue of Phantom Girl. She is one of the Guardsmen who survived the battle with Vulcan.
  • Nightside[1] - Formerly known as Nightshade, her powers are not unique as all members of her race have this as their natural ability; She can generate darkness. Nightshade is an analogue of Shadow Lass. Her name was changed to Nightside to avoid confusion with the DC/Charlton Comics character Nightshade or with Marvel's villainous Nightshade. Like Oracle, she was injured by Vulcan, but recovered and was seen[6] battling the X-Men and the Starjammers. Nightside was later slain when the Imperial Guard's recent assault on the Kree homeworld.[4]
  • Hobgoblin[1] - Formerly known as Shapeshifter and Shifter, Hobgoblin is a member of the Chameleoid race and like Nightshade's race, Hobgoblin's powers are the natural ability of his race. The exact limitations of his shapeshifting ability are unknown, although he has been seen to transform into large, non-humanoid creatures. He is an analogue of Chameleon Boy. His name was changed to "Shapeshifter" to avoid confusion with the Spider-Man foe Hobgoblin. The first Hobgoblin was killed while impersonating Lilandra;[7] A second Hobgoblin appeared recently only to be or believed to have been killed by Vulcan.
  • Magique[1] - Formerly known as Magic, Magique can generate illusions. She is a magician of some aptitude. Magique is an analogue of Princess Projectra, and of the White Witch as well. She is one of the Guardsmen who survived the battle with Vulcan, but was killed by Adam Warlock during War of Kings.

1980s recruits

  • Manta[8] - she possesses the powers of flight, generates flashes of blinding light, and the ability to see in the dark. Her species experiences memory in a manner different from that of most other species. She is an analogue of Dawnstar. She was one of the survivors of the battle with Vulcan. During Realm of Kings she was one of the few selected to explore "The Fault".
  • Warstar (B'nee and C'cil)[8] - Warstar is actually two aliens, a small one named B'nee who can generate electricity and a large one named C’cil who is immensely strong and durable. B'nee rides on C'cil's back. Both appear to have metallic hides or to be wearing body armor. Their counterpart would seem to be Duo Damsel, or possibly Ferro Lad, although they are named for the puppets Beany and Cecil. They had been discharged and sent to Earth, which was turned into an intergalactic prison in Maximum Security. Though Webwing never came back with the Imperial Guard, somehow Hussar, Warstar and Neutron were accepted to serve the Empress again. Warstar was ripped in half when the Guard fought for their new emperor Vulcan against the X-Men and Starjammers, but Warstar survived and were carried away by their fellow Guardsmen.
  • Earthquake[8] - formerly known as Quake; he has rock-like skin and the ability to manipulate silicate matter. He survived the battle with Vulcan and now serves this new emperor of the Shi'ar Empire. Possibly an analogue of Blok.
  • Hussar[8] - She wields a whip that she uses to channel bio-electricity into her opponents to shock and paralyze; she had been discharged and sent to Earth, which was turned into an intergalactic prison in Maximum Security. She appears to have been pardoned since she was among the Imperial Guardsmen, who recently attacked the Kree homeworld.[4] During the assault, Hussar and Electron fought Ronan the Accuser, who was ultimately defeated by their teammate, Titan. During Realm of Kings she was one of the few selected to explore "The Fault". Her Legion counterpart would seem to be the villain Tyr.
  • N'rill'iree[9] - Possesses enhanced strength, endurance, and resistance to physical injury. N'rill'iree was not seen among the Imperial Guard during the battle against Vulcan, so it's doubtful he still serves with the Guard.
  • Webwing[10] - He possesses tentacles which exude a powerful narcotic sedative. Webwing had been discharged and sent to Earth, which was turned into an intergalactic prison in Maximum Security. Though their colleagues Neutron, Hussar and Warstar came back to serving the Imperial Guard, Webwing has not been among the Guard ever since.
  • Blackthorn[10] - He is capable of communicating with plant life and control their actions. Blackthorn is a possible analogue of Chlorophyll Kid. Blackthorn was not seen among the Imperial Guard during the battle against Vulcan, so it's doubtful he still serves with the Guard these days.
  • Zenith[11] - He can siphon the potential energy of living beings and convert it into blasts of concussive energy, and is the brother of Raza Longknife of the Starjammers. Is killed in a battle against the Starjammers and Binary (Carol Danvers).[12]
  • Black Light[11] - It has yet to be confirmed whether Deathbird is his mother. He can project bolts of Darkforce energy from his eyes [11] and hands.[4] He is also capable of flight. He has barely been seen among the Imperial Guard until War of Kings. Possibly an analogue for Shadow Lass or her brother, Shadow Kid.
  • White Noise[11] - It has yet to be confirmed whether Deathbird is her mother. She uses high-pitched frequencies produced by her vocal cords to shatter objects, disorient her opponents, and allow herself to fly. She has barely been seen among the Imperial Guard and probably quit right after her mother was no longer the Shi'ar Majestrix. She came back during War of Kings and fought Black Bolt with Gladiator; they won. She is possibly an analogue for Tyroc.

1990s recruits

Note: None of the 1990s members stayed on the Imperial Guard after the '90s. It seems new writers have lost interest is the recruits of this decade.
  • Onslaught[13] - He possesses enhanced strength, speed, agility, reflexes, endurance, dexterity, and reaction time. He is a skilled martial artist. He is not to be confused with the supervillain Onslaught. He is an analogue of Karate Kid. Onslaught was first seen with the Shi'ar Imperial Guard during the crisis that came to be known as Operation: Galactic Storm. He was among a small strike force that battled Quasar in outer space, keeping the young Avenger busy long enough so that he would not interfere with the launch of the Nega-Bomb, the weapon that ended the war by killing 90% of the Kree population. Onslaught was not seen among the Imperial Guard during the battle against Vulcan, so it's doubtful he still serves with the Guard these days.
  • Solar Wind[13] - He absorbs cosmic energy and projects it through the chest plate on his armor. (It is possible that his Legion counterpart is Rond Vidar, who was revealed to be a member of the Green Lantern Corps) or possibly Wildfire. Solar Wind and his fellow Guardsmen Voyager and Moondancer quit the Imperial Guard after they wished to help Quasar battle the Stranger. After the Guards' leader, Gladiator, ordered the trio not to become involved, they resigned from active duty.
  • Moondancer (Myla)[13] - She possesses vast abilities related to extrasensory perception. She is an analogue of Dawnstar. She and her fellow Guardsmen Voyager and Solar Wind quit the Imperial Guard after they wished to help Quasar battle the Stranger. After the Guards' leader, Gladiator, ordered the trio not to become involved, they resigned from active duty. During Realm of Kings Moondancer was among the Guard and was briefly seen in action.
  • Voyager (Divad)[13] - He possesses teleportation abilities and has similar powers to Gates, but Voyager predates him. Voyager and his fellow Guardsmen Solar Wind and Moondancer quit the Imperial Guard after they wished to help Quasar battle the Stranger. After the Guard's leader, Gladiator, ordered the trio not to become involved, they resigned from active duty. Since War of Kings, Voyager made his comeback to the Imperial Guard and was seen in several stories.
  • Glom[13] - He is able to ingest and metabolize any form of energy he encounters. He is an analogue of Matter-Eater Lad. Glom was not seen among the Imperial Guard during the battle against Vulcan, so it's doubtful he still serves with the Guard these days.
  • Hardball[14] - He possesses a rubbery body that allows him to leap great distances and rebound off any object he strikes. He is an analogue of Bouncing Boy. Hardball was not seen among the Imperial Guard during the battle against Vulcan, so it's doubtful he still serves with the Guard these days.
  • Fang II[15] - This Fang has never really been confirmed to be a member of the Guard; it seems the Lupak look like her and when one is killed in battle they are succeeded by another retaining the name and the costume; she was never seen with the Guard but was hired to assassinate Cerise; her successor does not appear any time before her death; her jaw was ripped apart by Cerise.[16]
  • Fang III[17] - This is the second male Fang to be seen. He was one of the Guardsmen who survived the battle with Vulcan and was also with the Guard during the first attack on the Kree during War of Kings. The latest version of Fang, among other Guardsmen was selected by Gladiator during Realm of Kings to explore "The Fault".
  • Commando (M'Nell)[18] - He possesses enhanced strength, endurance, and intellect. He was once a Kree soldier. Being himself a Kree initially made Commando somewhat of an outsider in the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. But after their defeat of the Supreme Intelligence, Commando was accepted whole-heartedly into the group. M'Nell was not seen among the Imperial Guard during the battle against Vulcan, so seemed he left the Guard for some years. However, during Realm of Kings he was seen in action with the Imperial Guard once more. He is the analogue of Mon-El.

2000s recruits

  • Delphos[7] - She has precognitive abilities. For a time, she took Oracle's place in the Guard. She is an analogue of Dream Girl. Since Oracle is back at the Imperial Guard and Delphos was not seen among the Imperial Guard during the battle against Vulcan, we can assume she no longer serves the Imperial Guard.
  • Forunn[19] - Her powers are unknown at this time; Smasher described her as having an "idea", so the name may have come from the word "forerunner", although this is uncertain. It has also been speculated that she might have speed-related powers; if this is so, she would be an analogue of XS; She was killed by Cassandra Nova.[20]
  • Mammoth[19] - He resembles a humanoid mammoth. Mammoth is possibly an analogue of Tusker. He was killed by Cassandra Nova.[20]
  • Stuff[21] - A shapeshifter whose natural form resembles a green, cyclopean amoeba. He is xenophobic towards non-shapeshifting species. He infiltrated the Xavier Institute as a student named "Kato", but his mind is wiped.[22]
  • Squorm[21] - He has unknown powers, but may be a kind of hive entity or artificial intelligence. Squorm dwells within a suit of powered armor that carries a plasma-based firearm. Squorm was subsequently defeated by the X-Man Beast, who slashed open Squorm's space-suit. He did survive the attack and was seen amongst the Imperial Guard during War of Kings. This character is possibly an analogue for Quislet.
  • Monstra[21] - She is a monstrous four-armed female with superhuman strength and durability, and may have limited intelligence.
  • Cosmo[21] - The character’s name was revealed by Grant Morrison in an interview. As the codename was never used in print, many readers perceived him as the already established Imperial Guard member, Neutron; however, the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Teams 2005 has listed them as two separate members. He is near-identical to Neutron, although the black and white star field design on his costume are reversed. Like Neutron, he is a Star Boy analogue. He too was slaughtered by Vulcan.
  • Arc[21] - He possesses the ability to generate electricity, and may be physically composed of electricity. Like Tempest/Flashfire, he is an analogue of Lightning Lad, and it has been speculated that the two may be the same character. Arc was not seen among the Guardsmen during the battle against Vulcan, however he was among the Guard during the attack at Kree space during War of Kings and later briefly during Realm of Kings.
  • G-Type[23] - He is a being made of solar plasma. His powers are unrevealed, but probably involve the generation or manipulation of energy. His brain is vulnerable to magnetic interference. He is an analogue of Wildfire and perhaps Sun Boy. He was dissolved and possibly destroyed by Xorn,[24] but returned during Realm of Kings.
  • Neosaurus[23] - He is a reptilian creature from a tropical environment. He presumably possesses mental powers, and shares his consciousness between several bodies, one of which was killed by Wolverine. Neosaurus was not seen among the Guardsmen during the battle against Vulcan, so it's doubtful he still serves with the Imperial Guard these days.
  • Plutonia[23] - She can become intangible, and was involved in a relationship with deceased member Smasher. Like Astra before her, she is an analogue for Phantom Girl. She is one of the Guardsmen who survived the battle with Vulcan. Plutonia is the only 2000s recruit that is often used and currently still active serving the Imperial Guard. Plutonia among a few others was selected by Gladiator during Realm of Kings to explore "The Fault". There it became clear she has a crush on Mentor, the current leader of the Imperial Guard.
  • Blimp[23] - He can inflate his body to become lighter than air. He is an analogue of Bouncing Boy. Blimp was not seen among the Imperial Guard during the battle against Vulcan, so it's doubtful he still serves with the Guard.
  • Schism[23] - She possesses the ability to split her body into two bodies. As one body, half of her body is white and the other half black; when split, each body is one color. She is an analogue of Duo Damsel. Her name was revealed by Grant Morrison in an interview and was confirmed in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Teams 2005. Schism was not seen among the Imperial Guard during the battle against Vulcan, so it's doubtful she still serves with the Guard.
  • Fader[23] - He can become invisible, and apparently automatically becomes visible when unconscious. He claimed to be "hiding in the ultraviolet". He carried a light-based firearm. He is an analogue of Invisible Kid. Fader was not among the Imperial Guard during the battle against Vulcan, so it's doubtful he still serves with the team.

Shi'ar Death Commandos

The Shi'ar Death Commandos are elite alien mercenaries from all the corners of the Shi'ar Empire that handle missions deemed too politically for the Imperial Guard. Among its members are:
  • Black Cloak[25] - Black Cloak is the field leader of the Shi'ar Death Commandos. Black Cloak carries a spear that gives off an energy discharge that disintegrates his victims. Can send his victims through his cloak to another unrevealed location. Charlotte Jones appears to have fallen into his cloak and is trapped inside the dimension that he hosts.Murdered Fred Harriman and Elaine Grey in a surprise attack meant for Rachel Summers. During his fight with Gladiator, Black Cloak was killed by Marvel Girl during War of Kings. It is not clear who leads the Death Commandos now.
  • Colony[26] - Colony is one colony of bugs acting as one sentient being. The bugs can climb through small spaces, devour flesh, and eat through various materials.
  • Devo[25] - Devo creates impenetrable force fields around his victims. He can inject those with a gas that eats his victims from the inside out. Murdered Julian, a relative of Terry McGuire.
  • Flaw[26] - Flaw is a Warskrull and a field leader of the Shi'ar Death Commandos. He possesses shape-shifting abilities with yet unrevealed upgrades.
  • Hypernova[25] - First of two females of the team. She can fire energy blasts that dissolve people instantly. She murdered Roger, an uncle of Rachel Summers.
  • Krait[25] - Attacked and presumably murdered Mary-Margaret and Kindra, cousins of Rachel Summers. Krait looks like a bird of prey with wings and big, sharp claws. He can fly at enhanched speed and has superior strength and endurance. Krait is resistant to injury.
  • Offset[25] - Second of two females of the team. She looks like a green-skinned mantis-like insectoid alien with four arms. Offset has a large jaw with razorsharp teeth. She also used blades while fighting others, can lock down the superhuman abilities of others with a touch, and can gain the memories of her victims by biting off and eating their heads. She was the second-in-command of the team.
  • Sega[25] Sega is a being in a gaseous cloud form. Sega can create a large force field, covering at least a city block, and can change the frequency of the shield to explode if disrupted. Sega is vulnerable to cold temperatures.
  • Shell[25] Shell is from an alien race that's made of rock. He can encase people in rocky shells and also possesses super strength and endurance.
  • Warshot[25] - Warshot utilizes high tech weaponry. He is a skilled sharp shooter/gunman and an excellent long range marksman. Murdered John Grey, Phyllis and Roy Dennefer.

Praetorians

In an attempt to kill the renegades Starjammers once and for all, Vulcan selected the five most dangerous criminals the Shi'ar Empire has ever captured to serve in his new Imperial Guard called the Praetorians. These five criminals are:
  • Xenith[27] - A female of the Strontian race, the same race of Gladiator, she's the leader of the Praetorians and faced Rachel Summers. She is an analogue for Supergirl as Xenith is also Gladiator's cousin.
  • Hodinn[27] - A former member of the Imperial Guard until he went crazy. During the attack on the Starjammers, the Hodinn unlocked his armor and allowed his scorching body to send a huge heatwave in an attempt to kill all the Starjammers. However, the attack destroyed the planet.
  • Pn'zo[27] - This creature seems to be robotic in nature where it has tendrils that sends out charges of electricity and can transport people. He attacked Korvus, but was eventually defeated.
  • ZZZXX[27] - A symbiote using Raza Longknife as its host.
  • Uncreated[27] - A race of former slaves who were originally called The Works.
    • God-Killer[27] - The survivor of the Uncreated mass suicide and killed it's Shi'ar captors in order to find their god. He possesses superhuman strength, telepathy, sharp claws, and quills.

L'ennemi des X-Men
